Nonnie Polderman, RD
Nonnie Polderman is a dedicated and accomplished dietitian with a career that has spanned various specialties. She began her professional journey with a strong focus on diabetes management, where she honed her skills in empowering patients to manage their blood sugar levels and improve their overall health.
After transitioning to pediatrics, Nonnie joined the Division of Nephrology at BC Children’s Hospital where she works extensively with children, addressing the unique dietary needs for those with renal conditions.

At BC Children's Hospital, Nonnie is an integral member of the Nephrotic Syndrome protocol multidisciplinary team. In this role, she works alongside a diverse group of healthcare professionals to create comprehensive, evidence-based treatment plans for children suffering from this complex condition. Her contributions ensure that nutrition is a key component of the holistic care provided to these young patients.
Nonnie has authored numerous textbook chapters that serve as essential resources for both current practitioners and dietetics students.

Nonnie's passion for education and professional development is evident through her active participation in the Annual Dialysis Conference planning as well as her involvement with planning and presenting at the semi-annual Pediatric Renal Nutrition Academy.

Her commitment to the specialty of pediatric nephrology is highlighted by her active involvement in the Pediatric Renal Nutrition Taskforce, where she is one of a group of pediatric renal dietitians and nephrologists developing clinical practice recommendations in order to optimize the care and health outcomes of pediatric patients with kidney diseases.

Throughout her career, Nonnie has been committed to improving patient care and advancing the field of nutrition. Her work at BC Children's Hospital and her involvement in various professional organizations highlight her dedication to making a positive impact on the health and well-being of her patients and the broader community.

The annual Pediatric Renal Dietitian of the Year Award recognizes a dietitian who demonstrates exceptional abilities in the area of pediatric renal nutrition care, including: leadership, community involvement, publications / lectures and educational activities. We applaud the hard work that goes into caring for our patients and those shining bright in the field. Applications open mid-February each year with nominations due by March 31st.
